Now that June's come to an end and we’ve stepped into July, we're officially halfway through 2025. So, what better time to pause and reflect on the year so far? From wellness events and creative workshops to holiday celebrations and socials, we've shared some pretty amazing moments. We've enjoyed quality time with pets, laughs with neighbours and friends, and memories we won't forget — here’s a glimpse at just a few that have made the year so special.

Holidays & seasonal celebrations

Our residents have enjoyed lots of meaningful moments this year, coming together for special holidays and seasonal festivities. From Ramadan and Mother's Day celebrations to Valentine's Day treats and visits from the Easter Bunny, there's been no shortage of celebrations.

Wholesome moments with pets

Pets are part of the family, so of course we had to celebrate them too! They've enjoyed all kinds of playful activities, from a doggy date night to a few pet photo shoots (one even featured a runway!), plus plenty of treats along the way. And it's safe to say there are more wholesome moments with furry friends still to come.

Community socials

From casual get-togethers to themed nights in, we’ve created plenty of opportunities to connect with neighbours and make new friends. We've had a lively speed social, a gin tasting evening, garden club, resident-run yoga classes, pub quizzes and more. There’s always something happening to bring people together.

Sports & entertainment

We've kept things lively with a calendar full of fun-filled entertainment and sports-themed events. From Wimbledon watch parties and Eurovision viewings, to movie nights and pyjama parties, we've found so many ways to bring entertainment and community spirit together in one room.

More celebrations

From Pride and Lunar New Year parties to extra Wimbledon celebrations, we've embraced every opportunity to come together in festive spirit and community joy.

Delicious food & sweet surprises

There’s nothing like great food and drinks to bring people together, and our neighborhoods have served up plenty. From pancake mornings with a variety of toppings and DIY smoothie bowls to cheese boards for National Cheese Day and baked treats from Delish Bakery, our residents have truly been spoiled for choice.

Charities & partnerships

We’re proud of the ways we’ve given back, supporting good causes through collaborative and impactful events. Our sponsored sleep out for charity at the beginning of the year set a generous tone, which was followed by events like a bikeathon, RSPCA Bake Sale, and a good few raffles and giveaways. Our residents have also enjoyed lots of goodies and treats from our local partners, we’re all about balance over here.

It's been a fantastic year so far… and we're just getting started. Let's see what the second half of 2025 brings!

At ila, we're all about building strong communities that not only bring people together but also make a real difference in the world. Our residents and teams are passionate about supporting causes that matter, and over the past few months, we've gone above and beyond to raise money for the charities close to our hearts! From bikeathons and bake sales to mountain climbs and skydives, here's a look at some of the ways our communities have supported these charities.

ila

Hope and Homes for Children – Bikeathon
Our communities joined forces to raise money for Hope and Homes for Children; a charity that helps to transform the lives of vulnerable children by making sure they have the loving and supportive homes they deserve. Together, we cycled a whopping 488.59 MILES and raised a total of £1445 for the charity, and we couldn’t be more proud to have supported them in such a fun way!

Hairpin House

Macmillan Cancer Support – Bake Sale
The residents at Hairpin House enjoyed a bake sale with the most delicious baked goods to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. The charity works hard to provide information, services and support to people living with cancer during every stage of their journey. Together we raised £20 for the charity, as well as bringing awareness to the meaningful work that Macmillan does.

Sherborne Place

RSPCA Birmingham Animal Centre – Snowdon climb
Sherborne Place’s very own Charlotte and Kyron took on Snowdon to support a charity close to their hearts: RSPCA Birmingham Animal Centre. The charity works to protect and improve animal welfare and end animal cruelty. With the climb, Charlotte and Kyron raised a huge £726 for the charity, exceeding their initial goal of £500 in donations and making both themselves and the ila team extremely proud!

Pall Mall Press

Alder Hey Children's Charity – Bake Sale
The team at Pall Mall Press baked some sweet treats and put together an amazing bake sale in support of Alder Hey Children's Charity. The charity raises funds to support Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool, going towards research, equipment and activities for the children. The residents definitely enjoyed it as most of the baked goods were gone before lunchtime – and the best part? We raised an amazing £112 for Alder Hey Children’s Charity!

Machine Works

Life Oasis Hayes – Charity Brunch
The residents at Machine Works came together for a brunch in support of Life Oasis Hayes, a food bank which serves the Hayes and Hillingdon areas of London. The team prepared a delicious spread of lunchtime classics for everyone to enjoy, while the residents contributed by bringing along their own food donations for Life Oasis Hayes.

Kangaroo Works

The Children’s Hospital Charity – Skydive
Carl, our adventurous Resident Services Supervisor from Kangaroo Works, fearlessly skydived to raise money for The Children’s Hospital Charity based in Sheffield. The charity helps to support Sheffield Children’s Hospital in funding treatment for children, offering vital medical care and support to young patients and their families during challenging times. With the skydive, Carl managed to raise a HUGE £452 for the charity!

We’re excited to announce that our neighbourhoods, Hairpin House, Sherborne Place and Pall Mall Press, have all been awarded with six incredible HomeViews awards in 2024! These awards celebrate excellence across all aspects of apartment living, and we feel honoured to have been recognized for our hard work and dedication to building strong communities and brilliant neighborhoods.

Here's an overview of the awards we’ve received:

  1. 2024 Award of Excellence: This award highlights our dedication to giving our residents an all-around excellent experience. From the moment we welcome you in, we work hard to make sure that every part of your new home goes beyond what you expect, with our incredible teams here to make you feel at home right away!

  1. 2024 Design Rating of Excellence: From the bright interiors at Sherborne Place to the stylish spaces at Hairpin House and the bold blues at Pall Mall Press, all of our neighbourhoods have been made to not only look good but also be functional and enjoyable. Our modern apartments and amenity spaces are thoughtfully designed so that every corner is a great place to connect, relax and unwind.

  1. 2024 Facilities Award of Excellence: Our amenity spaces are the heart of our neighbourhoods and a big part of our residents’ lifestyles. That’s why we’ve designed them to cater to every part of your life. With co-working spaces, communal areas, lounges, terraces and more, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!

  1. 2024 Location Award of Excellence: Located in the vibrant areas of Digbeth, Brindley Place and Pall Mall, each of our neighbourhoods is surrounded by culture, community, and so many fun things to do. For our residents, this means that after a long day of work, leisure, or exploration, home is only a few steps away.

  1. 2024 Value Award of Excellence: We know how important it is to feel like you’re getting your money’s worth. That’s why we focus on offering top-notch services and luxury living spaces at competitive prices. Whether it’s our responsive maintenance team, our engaging community events, or our wide range of amenities, we make sure you feel that every penny is well spent.

  1. 2024 Management Award of Excellence: Every great apartment building needs an excellent management team, and our neighbourhoods have exactly that. We’re all about providing incredible service and building a strong sense of community. From welcoming you in and keeping things running smoothly to organising fun events and sharing lots of laughs, we’re here to make your experience living in our apartments a great one!

While winning these awards means a lot to our team, it also shows what a wonderful community of residents we have at Hairpin House, Sherborne Place, and Pall Mall Press. In order to win, each of our neighbourhoods met the criteria of having over 10 verified resident reviews on HomeViews within the year – 50% of which had to have a 5-star rating – as well as maintaining a minimum of 4 out of 5 stars. In other words, we couldn’t have done it without our fantastic residents and their lovely feedback!

HomeViews – the host of these awards – is a platform where residents have a chance to leave a review and have their voices heard, with each one being verified so you can be sure that all reviews are left by people who really live in our apartments. It’s the go-to place for residents to share their experiences and insights, helping others to make more informed decisions about their next home. We can proudly say that Hairpin House, Sherborne Place, and Pall Mall Press are all highly ranked in their cities.

If you’re thinking about making Birmingham or Liverpool your next home, you can schedule a tour of one of our neighbourhoods and see for yourself why Hairpin House and Sherborne Place in Birmingham, and Pall Mall Press in Liverpool, are the perfect places to call home.

You can also explore our HomeViews pages to find out what our residents have to say about living at Hairpin House, Sherborne Place and Pall Mall Press.

On Saturday 15th June, members of the ila team from Sherborne Place and Pall Mall Press will take on the exciting but tough mission of climbing Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, standing at 3,560 feet. This climb is not just about the physical challenge; it’s also with the goal of raising money for a charity close to their hearts: the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

Meet the brave team taking on the climb:

Representing ila are Charlotte and Kyron from Sherborne Place, alongside Georgie from Pall Mall Press. The dedicated trio are true pillars of their communities, being known for their warm personalities and kind natures. It’s no surprise that they’ve stepped up to the task of supporting the RSPCA in such an incredible way!

About the cause: RSPCA

The RSPCA is a charity that advocates for animal welfare, providing care and protection to countless animals across the UK. By taking on the Snowdon climb, Charlotte, Kyron, and Georgie aim to raise awareness and funds to support the RSPCA’s mission to prevent cruelty and promote kindness to animals. Every donation received will go directly towards helping the RSPCA continue its work in protecting animals, which means a lot to us as pets are always loved and welcome in our neighbourhoods.

So, how can you support?

Both the Sherborne Place and Pall Mall Press teams have set themselves a goal of reaching £500 in donations each. Reaching this goal will significantly contribute to the RSPCA’s efforts and make a difference in the lives of many animals. You can support their mission by donating through each of their JustGiving pages:

Make your donations here:

Whether you donate, spread the word, or simply send the teams your best wishes, your support will greatly impact their fundraising efforts. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will help bring hope and healing to animals in need.

Introduction: Enriching the Present with Birmingham's Past

Nestled within Birmingham's Ladywood suburb, Sherborne Place stands as a testament to history and community. Comprising seven blocks and 232 apartments, this modern enclave artfully interweaves the city's cultural heritage with contemporary living. Join us on a captivating journey as we unveil the stories behind each block's name, a tribute to Birmingham's rich history.

Unveiling Birmingham's Cultural Symphony

Birmingham, affectionately known as "Brum," resonates at the heart of the UK with a medley of history, music, and culinary delights. Festivals, from jazz and opera to comedy and poetry, infuse the city with life. A thriving café culture and diverse shopping scene flourish, while Birmingham's 50 miles of canals – more extensive than Venice – harbor an exquisite balance of nature and urban living.

Sherborne Place transcends being a mere residential complex; it's a homage to Birmingham's enduring legacy.

Louisa Ryland: A Luminary of Benevolence

Amid the names gracing Sherborne Place, Louisa Anne Ryland shines as a guiding star. A member of the Ryland family, her legacy resonates beyond material wealth. Fondly known as the "Generous Mother of Birmingham," Louisa's philanthropy echoes through hospitals, churches, and schools, etching her name into Birmingham's cultural fabric.

A Glimpse into Louisa's Legacy

Louisa Ryland's philanthropy went beyond gesture—it was a genuine commitment to Birmingham. Her humility led her to make numerous anonymous donations, letting her actions speak louder than words. Louisa's strategic business acumen amplified her impact, allowing her to leave a legacy that far exceeded her inheritance. By passing on her wealth to others on the condition they adopt the Ryland name, she ensured her lineage's continuity.

The Smith-Ryland Family: Sustaining the Flame

At the heart of Sherborne Place's history lies the Smith-Ryland family, who left an indelible mark on Birmingham's streets. Over three generations, they transformed from craftsmen to significant landowners through visionary investments. Their name graces Birmingham's roads, an emblem of their enduring influence. Notably, Charles Smith-Ryland, son of Henry Smith, emerged as a major benefactor, changing his name to reflect the family's legacy.

Louisa's Gift to the Community: Parks of Tranquillity

Louisa Ryland's legacy extends beyond brick and mortar; she bestowed valuable land upon councils, transforming them into serene parks. These green havens offer respite amidst urban life, a gift from Louisa to the community she held dear. Among them stand Cannon Hill Park and Small Heath Park.

Blocks Named in Tribute:

  • Ryland House: An homage to Louisa Ryland, this block encapsulates her unwavering commitment to Birmingham and its residents.

  • Smith House: Echoing the story of Louisa's unfulfilled love, Smith House celebrates selflessness and dedication.

ila believe in design-led homes made simple. Our partnership with Climate Positive paint brand, COAT, aligns with exactly that; a curated palette, designed by Colour Consultants, with you in mind.

COAT has designed a carefully curated palette for our neighbourhoods, thoughtfully chosen to reflect local colour trends and complement every home.

Check out our curated colour palette:

The Ranger

A serious lone wolf. This smoky dark green keeps the peace as an accent colour in earthy schemes, or sits more humbly than you might expect when used all over.

Jojo's Green

A calming grey green with natural energy. Works well in all lighting conditions – this refined green shade has a real presence without being brash.

Rocky

A rich rebellious green with warming brown undertones. It brings a refined and natural
feeling to any space – so use confidently, and embrace the depth.

Mansard

A duck green that's just a little blue. Can be dramatic when used all over, or pair with paler greens and green-based neutrals for an organic scheme.

Mr. Clifton

A foggy grey teal, Mr. Clifton is the warmest blue in our palette which can be used
confidently in any room. Effortlessly goes with everything, too.

Adulting

Warm grey teal, it's strong with a big mortgage to pay. If you're looking for a deep grey,
green or blue that works in any space – you found it.

Hardback

A friendly and familiar dark greige. Heartwarming with a touch of drama, like your favourite book.

Old Street

A unique faded red, Old Street adds subtle warmth with brown undertones. It's a deliberate red, but deeply hushed too.

Piglet

If pink and plaster had a baby. This complex shade is fun and sophisticated in equal
measure. A touch of black knocks out any sweetness, to give an organic feel.

Well Grounded

A light biscuity beige that's effortlessly classy. An essential neutral for
mid-century-inspired colour schemes.

Debate Club

Humble yet dramatic, this complex greige feels natural and neutral. A colour that fights
for all corners due to it's complicated nature.

Percolate

Our modern take on brown – this unique shade isn't chocolate-y, but more hushed and earthy. A sophisticated neutral in large spaces, and characterful in smaller ones.

Ready to splash some colour on your walls? Just speak to your friendly management team who will organise this for you at a great price!
