Our Story

Kangaroo Works, the tool factory...

Embracing local culture is important to us. That’s why our brand has brought the site’s history back to life.

Our neighbourhood was originally home to Robert Sorby & Co., makers of edge tools in Sheffield, nicknamed ‘Kangaroo Works’ because of their trade with Australia.

The industrial revolution

In 1923, Robert & Sons Ltd was formed. They had a global reputation for developing some of the finest edge tools available.

Their products included adzes, axes, augers, edge tools, joiners’ tools, saws, scythes, hooks, sheep shears and crucible steel.

Keeping
the history alive

Our unique brick façade is inspired by the original site. And we’re proud of that, because we’re playing a key part in the ‘Heart of the City’ masterplan for regeneration.

From our exterior to our branding and interiors, we've celebrated our past. We’ve even had bespoke door handles made, using a pattern from the 1920s.
